Five families have homes of their own!

During the last week of June 2010, Habitat for Humanity's Newnan-Coweta affiliate, in conjunction with the federal government's Neighborhood Stabilization Program, put five Coweta families in homes. Habitat for Humanity is known for building homes for people who need them but who do not meet the requirements for a regular mortgage.
On Tuesday, Yates and Mary Elsner were among the five families to be placed in homes. Their new home is located at 8 Evan Court in Grantville. Others who signed paperwork at the Tuesday closings included Andrea Lowery for a home on Mallard Overlook in Newnan, Florraine Johnson on Chelsea Lane, Lisa Pierce on Jenny Road and Stanley Rutledge on Chelsea Lane in Grantville. The five closings on a single day - one an hour at the Morris, Hardwick and Schneider law firm offices on Highway 34 - also marked a milestone for the local Habitat affiliate.

Welcome to the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity

Founded in January of 1994, Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.  Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing.  The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. HFH International, which was founded in Americus, Georgia, in 1976, is now operating in 1761 North American cities and more than 602 active affiliates in international areas. HFHI is a growing ministry, both locally and throughout the world.

Volunteers provide most of the labor. Individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.  Partner Families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others.  Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses for other low income families in need of decent housing.
